When you open a chest, you will sometimes be awarded a new club that you haven’t unlocked yet. That chance depends on how many cards are in the chest and how many clubs you still need to collect.
Understanding the odds of unlocking a new club
Each chest has different club card amounts and rarities: Epic, Rare, or Common. For each rarity within a chest, the chance is calculated using the following formula to determine which clubs are rewarded:
(Number of club cards in the chest ÷ Total clubs for that rarity and tour) × Number of clubs you haven’t unlocked in that rarity and tour × [0.08].
If the result is 100 or higher, you’re guaranteed to unlock a new club. If the result is above 100, you might get more than one, but never more than three new clubs from one chest.
Each new club has the same likelihood of being rewarded as any other. Each club you already have in your golf bag also has the same likelihood of being rewarded as any other club you already have in your golf bag.
When a chest rewards you with random cards, you'll see the chances of getting an Epic, Rare, or Common card listed. For example, it might say each random card has a 1% chance of being Epic, a 4% chance of being Rare, and a 95% chance of being Common.
When you open the chest, the game first checks each card against those probabilities to decide what rarity it is. After that, it applies the formula above to decide which card you'll get.
Each new club has the same likelihood of being rewarded as any other new club. Each club you already have in your golf bag has the same likelihood of being rewarded as any other club already in your golf bag.
Example:
Let’s say you open a chest that contains 100 Common club cards. At your current Tour level, there are 7 Common clubs in total. You already own 5 of them, so you have 2 left to unlock.
- Number of club cards ÷ Total clubs: 100 ÷ 7 = 14.29
- Multiply by the number of clubs you haven’t unlocked: 14.29 × 2 = 28.57
- Multiply by the fixed value (0.08): 28.57 × 0.08 = 2.29
- Multiply by 100 to get the final chance: 2.29 × 100 = 229
That’s over 200, so you’re guaranteed to unlock one new club (100), and then you have another full chance for a second new club (the next 100). Each new club is as likely to be awarded as any other.
The remaining 29 means you have a 29% chance at a third club, but since you only have 2 left to unlock, you’ll get both those clubs guaranteed in this chest.
