Unlike 1vs1 matches, it is possible to choose a different golf ball in a Checkpoint Challenge shootout.

If you decide to use a different ball in the shootout, then you will consume both the golf ball that was used in the main match, as well as the golf ball that was used in the shootout.

Using the same ball in both the main match and the shootout will result in 1 ball being consumed.
